TUNA POKE

YIELDS: 4 Servings PREP TIME: 30 mins COOK TIME: 0 mins TOTAL TIME: 30 mins

My buddy, Steve Tyler, recently went on his very first big fishing trip out of San Diego and brought home 100 lbs of bluefin tuna! He was very generous and shared his amazing bounty with me; I seared some and made this delicious poke with the rest!

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb fresh bluefin (or other sushi-grade) tuna, cut into cubes
⅓ cup soy sauce or tamari
Wasabi paste, to taste
2 tbsp sesame oil
2-4 tablespoons very thinly sliced ginger
1 avocado, peeled and diced
Tools
Large bowl
Cutting board
Boning knife (if using whole fish)
Knife

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, wasabi paste (add just a little to start), and sesame oil until well combined. Taste and add more wasabi, if needed.
  2. Add the sliced ginger and diced avocado, gently fold until combined.
  3. Transfer to the fridge and let the flavors meld for at least 30 minutes or so.
  4. Serve as a bowl over rice with your favorite toppings or with tortillas or wonton chips for dipping.
  5. Enjoy!
