Kid Friendly Holiday Snacks With Dad

There’s a kid friendly holiday snack we like to make in my house around this time of year. You have probably heard of this holiday snack before. Some people call it “Puppy Chow for People,” while others call it “Muddy Buddies.” It has a great division on labor that really includes the kids cooking with Dad.

Puppy Chow for People

Here’s what we use to make it:

  • 9c Rice Chex
  • 1c semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2c peanut butter
  • 1/4c butter
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½c powdered sugar
  • Paper grocery bag

This recipe really lends itself to kids helping Dad in the kitchen. First, we have the kids measure out the powdered sugar and put it in the paper bag. Then we have the kids measure out the Rice Chex into a large bowl and set it aside. In a 1qt sauce pan add peanut butter, chocolate chips, butter, and vanilla. Melt slowly, mixing until it is smooth throughout; we keep this and the next part a Daddy part. Pour the mixture over Chex and mix until it’s all coated. Now pour into the paper bag, fold the top over, and have the kids shake until thoroughly coated with powdered sugar.

That’s it! Kids having fun in the kitchen with Dad making holiday snacks! Try it for yourself and share your creations on Facebook.
