I know a lot of you guys go hunting or fishing and probably have that experience! However, the rest of us have to go visit our fishmonger to help us out. Wagyu vs. Kobe Steak… What’s the real deal?

What is Wagyu Steak

Hey Peeps – I wanted to follow up about the post I did about Wagyu on FaceBook… loved all the comments. Keep ‘em coming. Some of you questioned whether or not I bought real Wagyu and mentioned that it’s only from Japan. You prompted me to do some research today and talk to the butcher where I got the meat… What I learned from him was, “Wagyu (which actually means Japanese cow in Japanese) is a breed of beef cattle and there are actually four breeds of wagyu. Japanese Black – one of the four breeds makes up 90% of all …

My Grill Needed a Rub-Down

Most of us hate to do a DEEP CLEAN of our grill. Usually, it’s just “HEAT THE SUCKER UP” and let all the grime burn off then scrap the heck out of it! That does work and is the norm… However, gunk still builds up and you need to get your DEEP CLEAN on! I’m sure you have at one point or another waited way too long to clean it and your grill went up in flames and you couldn’t stop it from burning even if you turned the gas off (assuming you use a gas grill!). Grease builds up, …

Dad Cooks: The Art of the Glaze

Barbecuing is as much an art as it is a science. The ability to cook savory meats and vegetables over an open flame is far different than cooking on a stovetop. There is no better feeling than when my child proudly proclaims, “My daddy cooks the best barbecue in the world!” One aspect of good barbecuing is mastering the glaze. No, I don’t mean the painting technique; but in a way the food is our masterpiece. A glaze can add a lot of flavor to an otherwise bland meal, but it’s a delicate balancing act. What is a glaze for …

One of the staple foods of any dad cooking for the family is the classic grilled cheese. It’s fast, it’s easy and boy is it tasty. Odds are your mom or dad taught you the same way to cook grilled cheese as everyone else. You heat a pan on the stove or use a hot griddle and place a piece of bread on the surface with the buttered side down. Add a couple pieces of American cheese and then top with a second piece of bread with the buttered side up. When the bottom piece is golden brown, flip it …

Tip of the Day! Freeze your Herbs

Dads That Cook  – Tip of The Day: Freeze Herbs – Chop them up and mix them with olive oil or butter in an ice cube tray and freeze. Freezing them in olive oil prevents the herbs from getting freezer burn or turning brown. When you need them for pastas, roasts, or sautéing veggies, you can just pop out what you need and throw it in the pan or pot. Such an easy way to keep your herbs fresh!

Dads Cooking Roasted Chicken

Dads cooking around America will appreciate the humor in my failed roasted chicken attempts. My wife always made it look so easy. Seriously? How hard could this be? You coat the bird with butter and seasonings and throw it in the oven. What seemed like a simple process turned into my kryptonite. This bird would either come out dry and chewy or it would come out pink around the breast. I began to loathe the bird. Yet, I could not let the bird beat me. This is what I learned. Butter Is a Good Thing When making a roasted chicken, …
