Fall is all about pumpkins and apple cider. You can’t go to any store or restaurant without seeing plenty of pumpkin everything from creamers to candles. It’s enough to drive you to drink. That’s when I love sitting down with a few fall cocktails. It’s nice to sit on the porch and watch the fall colors on the trees. I’m staying away from pumpkins until October, but I’ve include two great fall cocktails and one alcohol free one for the family.

Butterscotch Apple Cider

Fall wouldn’t be the same without some fresh apple cider, but why not add a little extra. Good for the whole family, this treat will go over great. You need

  • ¼ cup of unsalted butter,
  • ½ cup of sugar,
  • ½ cup brown sugar,
  • ½ cup of heavy cream,
  • 1 tablespoon of molasses,
  • ½ teaspoons of cinnamon,
  • ½ teaspoon of pumpkin spice,
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla
  • Apple cider

Place a saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, sugar, heavy cream and molasses. Stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Take it of the stove and stir in the vanilla, cinnamon and pumpkin spice. In a separate saucepan, bring the apple cider to a boil. Pour into a mug and stir in a tablespoon or two of the butterscotch mixture.

Hunter’s Cocktail

If you’re a hunter, then you’ll love the Hunter’s Cocktail. This is a long standing tradition for many and a great way to end a successful or unsuccessful hunting trip. It’s simple and taste great too. All you need is your favorite brand of whiskey and some cherry brandy. Mix about 1 ½ ounces of whiskey with ½ ounce of the cherry brandy. Put the guns away…far away and drink in moderation. Did I mention putting the guns far far away like in another building far away?

Hot Peppermint Patty

Hot chocolate is the perfect way to warm up after a brisk fall day. The Hot Peppermint Patty is an adult version of this tasty treat. You’ll need

  • 1 ounce of peppermint schnapps,
  • ½ ounce of dark crème de cacao,
  • 1 teaspoon of crème de menthe,
  • Hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream.

Pour each of the alcoholic liqueurs into a mug…the size of the mug is up to you. Fill it with the hot chocolate and stir. Top it with whipped cream and you’re good to go.
